Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, formally known as Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin, is one of Tamil Nadu’s most prominent political figures. He has consistently remained in the spotlight, not just for his governance rooted in the “Dravidian model” of development, but also for the steady growth in his net worth over the years.

Stalin rose to the top leadership of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in 2018, taking over as party president after decades of political experience. In 2021, he was sworn in as the eighth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu following the party’s electoral victory. In his election affidavit filed during the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Stalin declared total assets worth Rs 8.89 crore, reflecting a steady growth in his financial profile over the years.
According to the nomination papers submitted at the time, his movable assets were valued at slightly over Rs 4.94 crore. These included bank deposits, investments, and other financial holdings. His immovable assets, comprising land and residential properties, were declared to be worth Rs 2.24 crore.
Stalin played a central role in leading the opposition alliance against the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), which had governed Tamil Nadu for nearly a decade before the 2021 elections. His affidavit also provided details of his family’s financial holdings. His wife’s movable assets were reported to be worth Rs 30.52 lakh.
Interestingly, Stalin stated that he did not own any vehicle in his name. However, his wife possessed old gold jewellery valued at approximately Rs 24.77 lakh. He also disclosed that he held Rs 50,000 in cash at the time of filing the affidavit.
Another notable aspect of his declaration was the absence of financial liabilities. Stalin reported that he had no dues pending with banks or government institutions, highlighting a clean financial record. His sources of income were listed as his MLA salary, earnings from bank deposits, and rental income from property.
A comparison with his 2016 election affidavit shows a considerable increase in declared wealth. In 2016, Stalin had reported movable assets worth Rs 80.33 lakh and immovable assets valued at Rs 3.33 crore. The growth in his financial assets over five years reflects changes in investments, savings, and property valuation.
Meanwhile, his son, actor-turned-politician Udhayanidhi Stalin, also entered the political arena in 2021, contesting elections for the first time as a DMK candidate from the Chepauk-Triplicane constituency in Chennai. In his affidavit, Udhayanidhi declared movable assets worth Rs 21.13 crore. This included a 2016 model luxury four-wheeler with a procurement price of Rs 1.77 crore.
In addition to this, his immovable assets, including land and property, were valued at Rs 6.54 crore. Previously, Asianet Tamil reports suggested that Udhayanidhi Stalin’s net worth in 2025 was estimated to be around Rs 33 crore.
