Mangalore Refinery suspends gasoline export cargoes

The escalation of hostilities in West Asia appears to have disrupted gasoline export cargoes from Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL).

Though force majeure has yet to be officially declared on export cargoes, shipments have been suspended, sources said.

The company officials are yet to respond to the question posed by this reporter on this matter.

It is to be noted that shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has been stopped following Iranian attacks on vessels in the strait. This follows the military actions by the US and Israel on Iran.

The Strait of Hormuz is the main channel for the transport of nearly one-fifth of global energy cargo.

In a recent conference call on unaudited financial results for third quarter of 2025-26, Devendra Kumar, Director (Finance) of MRPL, had stated that MRPL exports almost 40 per cent of its products. However, he had mentioned that the figure may may change quarter on quarter.

The company exported petroleum products to the tune of ₹7458 crore during the third quarter of 2025-26 against ₹8114 crore in the corresponding period of 2024-25. MRPL exported petroleum products worth ₹22629 crore during the first nine months of 2025-26 against ₹25088 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

The company processed 4.70 million tonnes (mt) of crude during the third quarter of 2025-26 against 4.60 mt in Q3 of 2024-25. It processed 12.65 mt of crude during the first nine months of 2025-26 against 13.54 mt in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

Top government officials said on Tuesday that India has crude oil stocks for 25 days and an equal volume of refined petroleum product stocks. It was mentioned that this was sufficient to address supply disruptions for 50 days.
