Ride-hailing platform Rapido has launched its standalone food delivery app, Ownly, across Bengaluru. The company said the platform operates on a zero-commission model for restaurants.
The launch marks Rapido’s entry into the online food delivery market. The service is now live citywide.
Ownly said it does not charge restaurants commission fees. It charges customers a delivery fee that covers logistics costs. The company said this allows restaurants to offer lower menu prices without added platform charges.
The company has introduced what it calls a “Food Promise” campaign. The campaign includes a video commercial set in a courtroom. It addresses issues such as hidden fees, higher menu prices and discount structures.
Aravind Sanka, Founder of Rapido and Ownly, said, “Indian consumer habits are changing rapidly. Food ordering has become an integral part of everyday life across India, not just in metros but in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities as well.”
He added that the company aims to support restaurant partners of all sizes. Sanka said transparency and fairness will guide the platform’s growth.
The Bengaluru rollout follows a pilot in Koramangala, HSR Layout and BTM Layout. The company said it also conducted research on consumer habits in several cities.
Ownly said it worked with restaurant partners over the past year to understand industry concerns. It plans to use Rapido’s logistics network for deliveries. The platform lists close to 20,000 restaurants.
Founded in 2015, Rapido operates in more than 400 cities. The company said it facilitates over 5 million rides per day across services including bike taxis, auto rickshaws, cabs, parcel deliveries, flight bookings and food delivery.
