In a major management rejig, Tata Group-promoted Air India Express’ (AIX)  Managing Director Aloke Singh will conclude his tenure at the airline on March 19th after five years at the helm of the carrier. 

Singh was appointed as Managing Director for three years on March 20, 2023.

According to an internal update posted by Singh, the departure follows a period of significant structural transformation for the airline, including the navigation of an intricate merger and a complex integration process.

Singh is credited by the industry with overseeing the merger between Air India Express and AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India).

Besides, Singh pointed out that the airline has transitioned from a sub-scale, niche player to its current standing as the third-largest narrow-body operator in India. 

This growth included the creation of a new brand identity and the expansion of the aircraft fleet, he said.

Regarding operational data, Singh cited that the airline now maintains a fleet of 100-plus aircraft, representing a four-fold increase in size during this period. 

Additionally, the carrier’s network currently spans India and 14 countries within the region. 

The organisation, he said is supported by a workforce of 8,300 employees.

Furthermore, Singh announced that Captain Hamish Maxwell, who is currently the Chief Operating Officer to take the additional charge of Accountable Manager of the airline.
