Motherson launches high-tech automotive lighting facility in Gujarat

Auto components major Motherson Group has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat, dedicated to producing advanced exterior lighting systems for passenger vehicles, strengthening its footprint in high-value automotive components through its joint venture with Marelli.

The 8,200 sqaure metre plant — established as part of the Motherson–Marelli joint venture — is the first in India capable of manufacturing edge-to-edge, single-piece long lighting parts, enabled by high-tonnage multi-colour moulding machines ranging from 2,000T to 2,700T, the company stated in a statement here.

This allows the production of seamless Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and Rear Combination Lamps (RCLs), increasingly used as signature styling elements in modern passenger vehicles, it added.

Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice Chairman of Motherson, stated, “The inauguration of our cutting-edge automotive lighting plant underscores Motherson’s unwavering commitment to innovation, excellence, and customer-centricity. This strategic investment strengthens our ability to deliver advanced, future-ready lighting solutions while meeting the evolving needs of our customers.”

The facility also features rooftop solar installations, with plans to source additional renewable energy through open-access green power, aligning with sustainability commitments.
